Maintaining a good pH

Did you know the pH level in your mouth can affect the health of your teeth and gums? A balanced pH protects your dental health. The way to control the pH is through the foods we eat.  Regulating the pH in the mouth also reduces the bacteria in our mouths, which reduces our risk for cavities, gum disease, and tooth decay. Bacteria feeds off sugars that are commonly found in glucose, fructose, lactose and cooked starches. Foods such as candies, sodas, pastas and even natural fruits, give bacteria in the mouth more fuel to produce lactic acid which is the acid that cause tooth decay.
